Audio Technica LP-to-Digital Recording System with USB Turntable

I was so excited to buy this USB turntable at Christmas time. On arrival I was still very hopeful about finally converting my vinyl to digital. After downloading audacity I actually figured it out and converted a couple of LP's. Very soon though my recordings were distorting right in the middle of a lengthy recording. At first everything sounded crystal clear and then suddenly distortion. I tried unplugging and switching USB ports etc...all to no avail. There is no customer service available with these products and after searching the WEB no help there either. Oh Well.
