Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Trust Sylvania to come up with a very unique stereo system for this era. The compact SRCD873 Radio Turntable combines a turntable and an AM/FM radio in a tabletop format. Yes, it plays those old vinyl records, as well as new ones. There are built-in speakers and a headphone jack for private listening (headphones optional). The turntable plays 2 speeds - 33 and 45 RPM. The Sylvania SRCD873 Radio Turntable adds a USB port so you can transfer music to MP3 or WMA files on your PC. It also has an SD slot so you can play MP3 and WMA music files on the Sylvania SRCD873. The system can encode the phono turntable to MP3 format. It's rare to find a compact stereo system that still supports a phonograph turntable. It's even more valuable to find a stereo system that lets you convert your phonograph records into new MP3 files. It's a special relationship that respects traditional 20th century audio as it grows towards digital performance. Streamlined design to maintain PC speed and performance Automatic backup to protect digital photos and irreplaceable files

Customer Reviews: Sound too good to be true? March 29, 2010 S. DOPIERALA (Portland, OR USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well it is. For all the features this product claims it sure doesn't deliver. I figured at the very least I'd have a second turn table I could give to my son. Well that doesn't even work right. Here goes . . .
1. The turn table spins at an uneven rate causing the sound to be "wavy". I tried 7" and 12" plus both 45 and 33 speeds. All had the same result.
2. The feature I was most interested in was the ability to encode MP3 files onto an SD card directly from the SD slot. The recording instructions are pretty straight forward but after a few seconds of recording/encoding it either just stops on its own or displays "ERROR" on the LCD screen.
3. I tried the supplied USB port but my computer doesn't recognize the unit as an audio input device.
Basically when all was said and done the radio was the only thing that worked. I tried contacting Sylvania and Curtis (who actually makes the product for Sylania) but I haven't heard back. Sometimes when things seem too good to be true, they are.
