| Customer Reviews: Awful September 25, 2009 smt 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The sound from the Grace GDI-VW00 is very tinny with a lot of scratchiness and there is no bass. IMHO I think the stylus is ruining my records. I only used it once and I will gladly give it away for free, just pay for shipping.
Buyer beware September 24, 2009 David Bartholomew I couldn't rate this item's performance because I never connected it to my computer to try it out, but I thought other buyers should be made aware of a couple of shortcomings not immediately obvious from the description and photo.
As soon as I took the turntable out of the box, I could see two problems:
1) The turntable unit is not big enough to enclose an LP record.
2) In order to accomodate this condition, the "dust cover" has cutouts on three sides so that the LP sticks out while being played and is completely unprotected where it's uncovered.
Note that air currents passing through the cutouts will bring dust into the turntable even though there's a "dust cover".
Also of note: the platter is made of a hard substance (I think plastic, but it could be a light metal) and there is no mat; if someone is not steady or has had a beer (or two) the LP surface might contact the hard edge platter while being set down with possible consequences. There are, however, 3 or 4 rubber buttons that stick up from the platter so that the LP does not normally rest directly on the platter.
For users that aren't that concerned about these issues this may very well be an acceptable turntable (i.e., it may record just fine.) However, as the non-covering dust cover was a make-or-break issue for me, I packed up the turntable and returned it without even trying it. To their credit, the vendor paid for return shipping.
