| Customer Reviews: Sony PS-LX300USB Stereo Turntable March 2, 2010 Stuart E. Mason (Ranger, GA USA) This turntable has so much potential, to bad Sony don't know customer service.Lets review, The software sometimes does not divide the tracks. There is nothing I could find in the software or the on line users manual to change a setting to enhance this. I did, on my own, discover a way to manually create regions (track divisions) and save each track individually. This was time consuming, but effective. I had trouble with the volume of the playback on one album, I re-recorded it many times, adjusting recording levels, experimenting with several options on the menu bar to no avail. I truely believe the software is probably capable of fixing many of the problems that I had but we will never know. I went to the Sony web sight and sent them several inquiries on the problems I was having and seeing how I read everything possible I could find and the only help I got was from me and the hours I spent trying different things. Sony has a phone number where you can purchase the ability to talk to a customer service rep. Gee thanks, I just purchase your product and you want me to pay you to tell me how to use it. I find their lack of attentiveness a breach of the purchasing contract entered between a consumer and a manufacturer. I know I should have known this would have been a problem since so many others had said the same of Sony in their reviews. I watched my 30 days and exercised my return option with Amazon. I can not say enough about Amazon. They were very professional. They could sure teach Sony a little about customer service.
DON'T BUY THIS February 28, 2010 Jens O. Langsjoen 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Shortly after purchasing this record player the automated needle arm started malfunctioning. First of all, an automated arm is completely unnecessary, and in this case ruins the record player as a source of malfunction. The "start" button will bring the arm over to the record, touch down to the record for a second, then return to its starting position. If you try to manually move the needle arm over to the record, the automated function kicks in and fights you to move back. eventually it will play, but it takes about 10 minutes of fighting with an irritating and altogether unecessary automated function (that is electronically broken) to play a record. Get a more reliable record player.
worth the money February 25, 2010 Diana L. Lutfy Not much time for this review, but I want potential buyers to know that this turn table is more than worth the money. It sounds very good and you'll thoroughly enjoy listening to your albums especially if they've been in storage for many years as ours have been. I haven't tried the feature which enables you to transfer albums to digital files on your computer so I can't comment on that. It does seem cheap with all the lightweight plastic components but it's still worth the money.
Still doesn't do what it promised! February 24, 2010 Sally B. Lighty (West Chester, PA) My rating mainly relates to the Sound Forge Audio Studio software, although the first turntable worked for a while (after I solved the problems of installing the audio device in a way that didn't conflict with the audio device in my Dell laptop, and the problem of getting the sound monitored while recording), but then it ceased sending any signals to the computer. I returned it to Amazon with no questions and was sent a replacement which is still working, more or less. The remaining problem is that I can make a sound file, lable the file and the tracks, but I can't save any of those: the file or the written lables. The Sound Forge tutorial is variable. Some functions are easy to master with the wizard, and others are so obtuse as to be useless. I haven't given up, but getting support from Sony consumes most of a working day - even if it doesn't help. I can, however, play the sound files that I was able to record, restore and save, and they sound great. I haven't mastered a way to put these on a CD that I can play in my car or on a player. I see little help in solving that problem if, indeed, I get to it!
Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable System February 24, 2010 C. K. Brown 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased the Sony PS-LX300USB turntable primarily for playing our old vinyl records through an existing sound system. The built-in preamp and USB-recording capability were features I wanted, and I've always liked the Sony brand.
br /
br /After using the turntable for several weeks, I am quite pleased with it. It works well, was easy to set up (at least as a basic record player), and the controls are simple to use. The output cable is a little short, but otherwise it would be hard to find anything to dislike about the hardware.
br /
br /The included software, Sound Forge Audio Studio 9, gave me a bit of trouble, however. Others have commented about their difficulty in getting sound to play through the computer speakers while recording. This happened to me, too, and it took some time to discover the solution.
br /
br /First I went into my Windows XP Control Panel, clicked "Sounds and Audio Devices", then clicked "Audio", then
br / 1- set the default playback device to my regular internal sound, and
br / 2- set the default recording device to "USB Audio Codec."
br /However, I still could not hear any sound while recording. Audio Studio's level meters showed a strong signal coming from the turntable, but there was no sound. Selecting "Monitor Recording Level" didn't help either.
br /
br /After much frustration, I found a setting in the Audio Studio program that fixed the problem. Here's what worked for me:
br / With the turntable connected to the computer via its USB cable,
br / 1- Open Audio Studio and, on the menu bar at the top, click Options, Preferences.
br / 2- Click the "Audio" tab.
br / 3- Set "Audio device type" to "Windows Classic Wave Driver"
br / 4- While there, ensure that the "default playback device" is the computer's regular sound device and the "default recording device" is "USB Audio Codec."
br / 5- Click OK.
br /
br /Step 3 above was the key that got me working. Perhaps this will help others that are still having sound problems.
br /
br /A few other comments:
br / Audio Studio does a great job of removing pops and surface noise from the vinyl recording. It's amazing how well it cleans up the recorded sound. The program sometimes has difficulty detecting tracks, but one can do that manually when needed. It would be nice if Sony's specs mentioned what stylus is used, as eventually it will need to be replaced.
